Watch: New Four-Day Working Week Trial Sparks Productivity and Pay Debate | Good Morning Britain (youtube.com)
Monday sees the launch of a new six-month pilot programme trialling a four-day working week with 70 UK firms, involving more than 3,000 employees across 30 sectors including The Royal Society of Biology, a brewing company and fish and chip shop. Joe Ryle, Campaign Director for the 4 Day Week campaign, is calling for a 32-hour working week with no loss of pay. He says numerous studies show productivity increased when employees worked shorter hours. But is it unreasonable to expect to be paid for a five day working week and only work four days?

Francisco Gimeno - BC Analyst Who doesn't want to work less hours and be payed the same? The proposal of a work week of 32 hours has its own pros and contras. It's a difficult question. And so many sides. This can be possible probably on some sectors or in some countries and not every where. Automation will probably allow humans to work less hours, but also less humans will work. Also, many realise that the nature of work in these times is really damaging our humanness when it seems we live to work, and not the opposite. Elon Musk would probably say we should work more and not less, but because we have to love the work we are doing, not because he is a heartless boss. If not, even one hour of work is a torture.
