There are just a few thousand billionaires in the world. But their number is rising. And combined, they control a vast chunk of the entire wealth of the planet. They are also getting wealthier. According to Oxfam, the 10 richest in the world have doubled their collective wealth since the start of the coronavirus pandemic - helped by soaring stock markets and our increased reliance on technology.

Francisco Gimeno - BC Analyst Should billionaires be allowed to exist? What kind of question is this? It sounds like intervention, even coercion against freedom of every individual. Yet, we are having a problem now. The 1% of the 1% on the top of rich people continue to get richer, and the money gap is creating a social gap, while middle class around the world is getting poorer. Of course not all billionaires are the same. Oligarchs in China (who live in fear of one day being the sacrificial goat of the State) and in Russia (an oligarchic state, a Democrature) are not the same as those billionaires who have worked for their money (yes, not alone, with many workers in their companies, and millions of clients in the world, but they really have worked for it), and those who just inherited and do nothing else. In the actual capitalist society, there is a money gap and rich and poor will be there always. But there should be some control and balances where, without coercion or too much government strong hand (Who is Galt, anyway?) the imbalance, the abyss between rich and less rich is not as wide as it is becoming nowadays. Complicated, anyway. Even the 4th IR with more equalitarian tech, won't be able to finish with this. There could arise a society where Basic Income, Basic Health, Basic education, etc could be given to the masses, while many other benefit of the same tech to continue to get richer.
