Francisco Gimeno - BC Analyst It seems the Apocalypse horses are riding again. War, Pest, Death, and now we are staring to get on the frontline what before were just rumours, Famine. The Ukraine war is just accelerating this, as COVID accelerated other social and financial changes. There is no lack of food in the world if we want. But if the materials needed to produce fertilisers are unavailable or lost in a damaged global supply chain, the food production is minimised. If excess of cereals and other food commodities are not exported due to war or political reasons, this brings hunger. If African farmers can't buy fertilisers because of high prices they will feed themselves only, and the big African conurbations will suffer. The consequences of famine are many and separated in time, from the hunger, social disruption and chaos in some territories, to political changes leading to authoritarian regimes which promise a strong hand to deal with famine, to local and global wars. So, are these rumours true, and if so, what is going to happen? We will see. Let's get ready and prepared for the worse, even if we strive for the best.
