Francisco Gimeno - BC Analyst If the actual European conflict spreads, moreover if any "tactical" nuclear weapon is used, even with warning, this will be a Black Swan event. We are starting to understand how damaging is the destruction of the gas pipes on the ocean, even if they were not moving gas, and whoever did it. Risks are more than opportunities to peace. However, there is a line which shouldn't be passed. And that is the international law which is the respect of the borders. Otherwise we return to Hitler's strategies of annexing territories just because German minorities were living there. We all know what appeasement did then. And Putin won't stop for those territories he says Russia has annexed. It's a challenging situation because either we just contain Russia, or the conflict escalates, or someone, probably hardliner substitutes him. The outcome of this conflict is really not hopeful. And there are too many acting like those in power in the 1930's just "abstaining" or simply supporting Russia sotto voce. If this goes worse, it could easily mean all our dreams and work on the digital economy would be also hit, more regulations, more censorship, more centralisation, more control in the name of democracy, more surveillance capitalism, etc. Anyway when this decade started we already wrote here that it would be a very difficult one as global order would transform and not for good, and only from 2030 ahead we could see a more improved global environment. So let's pass this storm as better a we can let's not lose hope, and not panic. Rationality, use common sense, meet challenges and overcome everything.
