Francisco Gimeno - BC Analyst I believe quantum computing is both overhyped and under-appreciated. The media often portrays it as a magic solution to all computational problems. Its potential to revolutionise specific fields is profound but we are likely decades away from general-purpose quantum computers. Meanwhile the race to get it means valuable technological advancements and a lot of deep thought on the nature of reality. The most immediate impact might be in specialised applications like materials science and cryptography. The key is managing expectations while continuing to invest in both hardware development and quantum algorithms. Now, another huge aspect of this tech is, as usual, how is the race going to end, who is going to be the first to reach the main goal, and with it, its control. The first company or country getting to quantum computer will have lot of power in its hand.
