    Francisco Gimeno - BC Analyst Generative AI companies capable of producing creative content like text, images, video, and music are seen as a major threat to the livelihoods of artists, musicians, actors, authors, and other creators because they are trained on vast amounts of existing creative works, often without permission or compensation to the original artists. Creatives argue this practice is unjust and threatens their ability to make a living from their work and we already have some court cases from creatives against AI companies for copyright infringement. Even the enthusiasts of Generative AI can’t argue against the concerns of artists and creatives. Generative AI have lots of benefits for creative people, but the practices of AI companies are a concern. What should we do then? We won’t close generative AI. But we should do what has been done every time a new tech happens, to build a new framework to balance tech advancement with the rights and livelihoods of human creators. Balance is the idea.
