AI girlfriends can be also used for emotional manipulation where users become increasingly dependent on the virtual care and support provided by the AI, further isolating them from genuine human connections. Young people can be vulnerable and easily manipulated for many reasons and purposes. Imagine the societal consequences of young people who don’t want to make connections with real partners, exposed to all kind of content even extremism and misogyny. Knowing the Pandora box will open, we need to make tech companies accountable for any mishap, either because of concerns about data privacy or ethical considerations.
