Francisco Gimeno - BC Analyst Good podcast (a lecture, indeed) with a good premise: the future of higher education is at a crossroads, and AI is the elephant in the lecture hall. As you should already figure, the reason is the developing and exponential growth of AI, which is going to disrupt (“decimate” is the word used in the podcast) traditional higher education as we know it. AI is democratizing knowledge as anyone with an internet connection can access high-quality education, often for free or at a fraction of the cost of a college degree. Skills are evolving faster than curricula. And by the time students graduate, the skills they learned might already be outdated and in places like US many are questioning whether the ROI of a college degree is worth it anymore, especially when AI can provide practical, job-ready skills in months, not years. The good side is that if this is true, It means a huge shift from traditional education is going to happen, in a field which is based yet in medieval ages ( a master and the students) and it potentially will enable educators and students to enjoy a better, personalised learning experience and focus on what AI can’t substitute, at least by now, like the mentorship, critical thinking, and creativity. AI will also make educating more cheap and accesible , which doesn’t need to “cheap” education.In short, we should not be scared of the disruption. It’s not about that. It is about “how” it’s going to happen and how universities, educators and students are going to adapt. Traditional colleges will mostly become obsolete if they don’t do so.
