James Talarico, running for a Texas U.S. Senate seat, joins Joanna Coles to argue that America has hit a dangerous inflection point—one defined by government overreach, corruption, and the collapse of public trust. From ICE shootings in Minneapolis to Donald Trump’s broken promises, Talarico says extremism and billionaire greed have left even Republican voters feeling conned, while Democrats remain stranded in the political wilderness. A man of faith as well as a lawmaker, he takes on Christian nationalism, explains what Jesus might say to Trump, and makes the case that nonviolent protest—and a new generation of leadership—is the only way out of the crisis now gripping American democracy.
00:00 — Feeling Conned: Rising Costs, Corruption, and Power at the Top
04:30 — Minneapolis, ICE, and the Expansion of the Police State

18:15 — Faith, Jesus, and Moral Leadership in a Political Crisis

27:35 — Loving Your Enemies: Politics, Forgiveness, and Moral Courage
32:20 — Church and State, Religious Pluralism, and Freedom of Belief

Criminal defense and civil rights attorney Robert McWhirter breaks down the legal arguments at play in the aftermath of the killing of a protester by a border patrol agent in Minneapolis over the weekend. McWhirter said given what's happening in Minneapolis, cell phones video may be as important as the Constitution for the protection of civil rights as the investigation.
resident Donald Trump indicated he’ll make changes to his administration’s deportation crackdown in Minnesota after the killing of two US citizens during immigration raids sparked nationwide uproar.
The president said he was sending US border czar Tom Homan — who is seen as relatively measured compared to rivals, including Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem — to Minneapolis in a bid to deescalate tensions.
Trump also spoke with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, telling the Democrat who he has derided as “grossly incompetent” that he would consider independent investigations into the shootings and reducing the number of federal agents in his state.
Later, the White House suggested it could remove US Customs and Border Protection personnel from Minnesota if state and local law enforcement adopted additional “cooperative measures” to assist in the apprehension of undocumented migrants.
Taken together, the comments indicated that Trump might recognize that his maximum pressure deportation campaign has eroded public faith in immigration officials as well as his own political standing. That poses a risk for Republicans heading into November’s midterm elections.

The protests in Minneapolis are becoming a demoralizing and deadly crisis for the Trump administration after 37-year-old intensive care nurse Alex Pretti was fatally shot by ICE officers on Saturday. State officials say he was a harmless protester but federals claim he was a “domestic terrorist.”
Meanwhile, President Trump spent last week admonishing his allies in Davos, with some of his comments causing genuine outrage in the UK - as thousands of British troops were injured and 457 of them died in Afghanistan, where they categorically did not “stay a little back.” Canada, France, Germany, Denmark - among others - all suffered losses there too.
Trump has now backpeddled with a gushing statement about British troops - but he’s not apologized. Should he?
Joining Piers Morgan to discuss is The Young Turks’ Cenk Uygur, Outkick CEO Clay Travis, former US Navy Seal Rob O’Neill, legendary Democrat strategist James Carville and none other than Piers’ own brother - retired lieutenant-colonel in the British Army, Jeremy Morgan.

Amid a growing backlash over the latest killing by ICE officers in Minneapolis, Donald Trump appears to be trying to calm tensions.
[Subscribe to our Substack newsletter: https://channel4news.substack.com/sub...]
After nurse Alex Pretti was surrounded and shot dead on Saturday, the Trump administration described him as an armed domestic terrorist who had been intending to kill ICE officers.
Video footage suggested that wasn't true, and tonight the White House refused to repeat that language.
Donald Trump has said he will "review everything" surrounding the shooting and is sending his border tsar Tom Homan to Minneapolis.

Shelagh Fogarty is joined by The News Agents' Emily Maitlis to discuss the most recent fatal ICE shooting.
US President Donald Trump says his administration is "reviewing everything" after the fatal shooting by immigration agents of 37-year-old intensive care nurse Alex Pretti in Minneapolis on Saturday.
In his comments to the Wall Street Journal, external, Trump also indicated that he would eventually withdraw agents from the city. But he did not give a timeframe.
Protests continued in Minneapolis and other US cities on Sunday, as Minnesota Governor Tim Walz warned that America was at an "inflection point".
The facts around the incident - the second fatal shooting by agents of a US citizen in recent weeks - have been hotly contested, setting up a fresh confrontation between state and federal officials.

US federal immigration raids continue in Minnesota, and the operation has set the stage for a standoff between state officials and the federal government. Governor Tim Walz has readied Minnesota's national guard, while the Pentagon has ordered troops to be on standby. A 2024 University of Pennsylvania simulation warned that similar state-federal standoffs could escalate into broader armed conflict.

The shooting yesterday has caused fury not just here in Minneapolis, but also in Democratic circles, with some Republicans calling for an investigation.
[Subscribe to our Substack newsletter: https://channel4news.substack.com/sub...]
-------
Alex Pretti's parents called his attackers 'Trump's murdering and cowardly ICE thugs'.
Trump officials say Pretti was carrying a gun and wanted to massacre them.
But video of the shooting tells a different story. And two witnesses have sworn in testimony filed in federal court that he was not brandishing a weapon when he approached federal officers.
Warning, this report contains distressing footage.

Kara and Scott jump on for an emergency episode in the aftermath of the Alex Pretti shooting in Minneapolis. They break down how cellphone video from the scene contradicts the narrative pushed by the Trump administration, the political reaction in Washington, and why a national economic strike — not just protests — may be the most effective response.

This moment isn't just a financial shift. It's a civilizational inflection point — where trust, once implicit, is being reassessed in real time. The dollar's role as the global backbone is being quietly, but decisively, reevaluated.

As the youngest continent with a rapidly urbanizing population, Africa is leapfrogging traditional infrastructure and deepening regional integration through initiatives such as the Lobito Corridor and the African Continental Free Trade Area. Its reserves of critical minerals are taking on new strategic significance, positioning the continent as an essential partner in global supply chains and industrial growth.

Gregory Peters, Co-Chief Investment Officer of PGIM Fixed Income, joins Bloomberg Businessweek Daily to weigh in on this week's bond market moves, including a global selloff sparked by a rout in Japan. In the wake of Japan's bond chaos, leaders gathering at Davos were left wondering how long it would take before so-called "bond vigilantes" target what US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent calls the “mountain” of US debt. Citadel CEO Ken Griffin told the forum Wednesday that the episode appears to be “a Liz Truss-lite moment,” recalling the UK crisis sparked by tax cuts enacted in 2022 under the-then British prime minister. Former International Monetary Fund First Deputy Managing Director Gita Gopinath said that it’s clear that investors no longer consider the US the secure borrower that it once was. “There are many other markets that were previously considered safe that are no longer safe, and that includes US Treasuries,” she said. Gopinath frequently pointed to America’s budgetary vulnerabilities during her IMF tenure. Peters calls the sentiment "a little melodramatic," and goes on to say that "having a heightened debt-to-GDP with administrative political instability has a tendency of wreaking havoc on the bond market." Peters speaks with Carol Massar and Tim Stenovec.

LBC's Washington Correspondent Simon Marks joins James O'Brien to discuss Trump's doubling down on comments about British troops.
Donald Trump claimed that Nato troops stayed "a little off the front lines" during the war in Afghanistan - sparking outrage in the UK from politicians and veterans' families.
The US president made his comments in an interview with Fox News in which he reiterated his suggestion that Nato would not support America if asked.
He said: “We’ve never needed them. They’ll say they sent some troops to Afghanistan … and they did, they stayed a little back, a little off the front lines.”
His remarks drew condemnation from across the political spectrum, with critics pointing to the 457 British deaths in Afghanistan and highlighting Mr Trump’s avoidance of military service in Vietnam.
