First up, while ProShares ETF launch was seen as a landmark in Bitcoin history, it was not without its critics. And now it's looking to secure an exemption from trading limits at the CME, where it purchases futures contracts. That exemption would allow the firm to maintain exposure to Bitcoin if the fund continues to grow. In other words, they just want to be able to buy more just to keep up with the demand for their Bitcoin Futures ETF. But could this filing ruffle even more feathers?
According to an article in Barron's, ProShares CEO Michael Sapir said the firm filed for an exemption from its CME positions limits and to be able to use swaps if need be. Proshares is already at 75% of its limit, holding 2133 contracts for November and 1679 for October. Sapir also told Barron's the firm will request permission to invest in other kinds of derivatives contracts.
Launched last Tuesday, Proshares ETF reached almost US$1 billion in trading volume in its first day, with more than 20 million shares traded. It became only the second fund to have reached such a massive first day of trading after BlackRock's Carbon Transition Readiness Sustainable ETF. Valkyrie, whose Bitcoin Strategy ETF also launched last week told Forkast.News the Bitcoin ETFs offer a great opportunity for more people to get involved in the ecosystem. One expert told Forkast.News that while the protection offered by futures being regulated may have proved attractive, initially, the additional expense of rolling monthly futures contracts fees, in addition to fund and management fees, may eventually work against ProShares Shares ETF. An expert says it will be difficult for the fund to outperform and will lag behind Bitcoin's performance by at least a percentage of those fees.
Meanwhile, Chinese mining rig maker Bitmain is seeing the benefit of the United States emerging as a cryptocurrency mining hotspot. Nasdaq listed Greenidge says it plans to ramp up its operations across the U.S. by more than doubling its previous order with Bitmain. Greenidge has upside its order of Bitmain as 19G Pro miners from 10,000 to 22,500, with the company saying it expects delivery in a second and third quarters of next year. To feel its growth, Greenidge has signed agreements for at least six potential data centers in Texas, a popular destination for crypto miners. It's also agreed to purchase a facility in South Carolina to mine crypto. Between them, the potential sites offer over 3000 megawatts of electrical capacity. 500 megawatts of which it anticipates having by 2023. Greenidge currently has 45 megawatts of mining capacity at its existing site in Dresden, New York and says it expects to continue to operate that facility.
The expansion comes as the U.S. has emerged as a new hub for mining activities. In the wake of the stepped-up ban in China, many players are looking to more regulation friendly shores, with the U.S. benefiting from the Exodus. That Exodus has seen that U.S. overtake China's leading position in crypto mining. With the latest data from the Cambridge Center for Alternative Finance showing the U.S. accounted for 35.4% of the global hashrate share at the end of August.
And finally, ShibaInu jumped almost 60% in less than 24 hours on Sunday to reach an all time high, as DOGE also surged over the weekend. Now, according to data from CoinMarketCap, it's now the 13th largest token by market cap. Just before the surge, the stock and crypto trading platform Robinhood, which, by the way, was at the center of the GameStop saga that led to the rise of meme coins, added ShibuInu as an option to a client survey kind of signaling maybe they could be listing it soon. Well, it wasn't the only dog based token to be thrown a bone over the weekend, either. Dogecoin jumped 8% after a tweet from Tesla CEO and long time DOGE fan referenced the token. While DOGE's price retraced to almost the same position it was before the jump early Monday Asia time it was then let off the leash and gained 12% before receding again, signaling a possible price action correlation with ShibaInu. We're going to be keeping an eye on whether these two dogs keep up the pace or curl up on the rug for nap.

We have to see how it goes and if the expectations that will help to expand that market is true. There are other ETF's on line to be approved too. Meanwhile it's exciting to see how the Chinese mining rigs companies and miners are moving to US (so that BTC hash rate in that country has rapidly increased in the last month). Memecoins, what can we say you don't know by now... Shibalnu seems either a good opportunity for those caught in the pump, or a big lose if in the way there is a dump. The crypto market is not for newbies.

NFTs, like ICOs (and its present iterations) are wonderful tools of the digital economy, but speculation, scammers, and opportunists ar taking the chance to fill the space with their rubbish. This will probably create a repulsion for investors until the hype calms and the real NFTs, the real creators and builders of the digital spaces remain. Google has helped them by funding their goal to create the most detailed map yet of the connections within the human brain. Getting whitelisted for upcoming NFT drops is more important than ever before. First, premiums on secondary markets are getting bigger - just look at Jungle Freaks, Kaiju Kings and Mekaverse compared to the post-mint periods for Cool Cats and Bored Ape Yacht Club a few months ago. Gas wars are also as bad as ever, and as a result more high quality drops are adopting pre-sale periods.
In this video I talk about how I'm using aggregation sites like Rarity.tools, social media platforms and mint scanners like Moby.gg to create a comprehensive funnel for upcoming drops.

HIGHLIGHTS
The challenge of crypto policy:
“The challenging thing is that most policy that we have to date has not actually come from Congress, it's come from the federal regulatory agencies, and that has some advantages… But the problem is, they're a little bit less directly accountable. A lot of these people are career people, or maybe they're political appointees. But there's a little bit of a less direct connection with users of cryptocurrency and so they often are only looking at a specific policy issue through the very narrow lens of whatever mission their regulatory agency has.”
How bad headlines and misinformation are influencing policymakers:
“Every once in a while, the bad headline is actually true, but a lot of times it's just a misunderstanding about how crypto networks work. So we have issues not just with policymakers, but with the journalists and the different publications that they work for... But, sometimes you can't change somebody's mind once they've sort of set out to do a story. But it is problematic because I think if you're a senior official at the Treasury Department or other agency, you just see the bad headlines and you don't necessarily get access to the good stories. So one of the things that we try to do is actually push out the good narratives through the press as well.”
The crypto provision in the infrastructure bill:
“We've known since the late spring that the White House and the Treasury Department were very interested in putting a provision in that bill that would direct centralized cryptocurrency exchanges, so these are companies like Kraken and Coinbase, to do information reporting, just like your stockbroker would at Charles Schwab. So that means that at the end of the year, these companies would send something that looks like a form 1099 to both the IRS and to their customers with information that shows how much tax they owe, because every time you trade cryptocurrency, there potentially is a capital gains implication there. So this is actually a good thing… But what they decided is, well, we need to help pay for this infrastructure bill, so out of the trillion-dollar bill, this throws in about 28 billion dollars.”
The problem with the infrastructure bill:
“The problem is what they did in this bill is, at the very last minute, without having any hearings or going through any sort of legislative vetting or even asking the stakeholders, like the Blockchain Association and others who've been working with the committee for a long time… what they did is they expanded the definition of a broker, so basically, the people who have the kind of organization that would have to do this kind of reporting, to include things like software developers, miners, stakers, other types of network validators - basically people that don't have customer relationships, that don't have access to the information required for information reporting, and so in some ways, it's almost like a de facto ban on these activities because there's no way for these types of organizations to comply.”
The good news about the crypto provision:
“The good news is that through this process, the authors of the amendment and even the Treasury Department themselves have said, oh, no, that's not what we meant this language should do. So we have a couple of things. One, there's a bunch of pressure right now that if this passes and they move to enact it, that they're not going to immediately try to make this apply to miners or software developers, or others. And so there will be political pressure for them to do this in a tailored way that really just captures centralized exchanges. So what we're working on right now is to try to figure out how to undo this legislation. And at this point that we're recording this, the infrastructure bill has not actually become law yet. So we do actually need that to happen before we can undo it.”

Austria is threatening to impose the toughest restrictions in Europe on those unvaccinated against COVID-19. It says they could be put into lockdown if the nation's intensive care units come under too much strain.
Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg warned of a 'pandemic of the unprotected' as infection numbers in Austria rise. Around 62 percent of eligible people have been fully vaccinated - but the campaign has stalled.
After a crisis meeting, the chancellor said he hopes the plan will send a message to those still refusing to take the jab.
Countries across eastern Europe are already dealing with overcrowded hospitals because of vaccine skepticism. New infections and deaths in Ukraine are the highest they've been since the beginning of the pandemic. The government has introduced new restrictions on public life in response.
People suffering from Covid's Delta variant have practically filled a hospital west of Kyiv. Doctors expect even more cases, and they know why.
Only 15 percent of Ukrainians are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus - one of Europe's lowest rates. After experiencing the disease, some people say they should have acted differently.
As new cases and deaths from the disease reach new heights in Ukraine, more people are getting their coronavirus shots. But not all have come voluntarily. Ukraine now requires many state employees including teachers to be vacccinated against the virus. And to ride public transport, people now have to be either be vaccinated or tested before traveling. But again, resentment against the measures is widespread. To get around the restrictions, many Ukrainians have been buying fake vaccination documents. Yet another problem for a country already struggling with the pandemic.
