Historically with new inventions or technologies, there have been two sides, those who adapt, embrace and strive, and those who believe everything new is a fad and theirs was the only way of doing things. Even before DeFi there are examples on how tradicional banking has adapted to new things, like when the digital money platforms in Africa grew so much that Banks feared their customers would just leave them, they had to join those platforms, create networks and even invent new products. Defi, which is not a fad at all, and in constant iteration and development is going to be the next shock for those in the banking and financial system who don't understand the urgency to adapt, embrace in order to be successful.

What is Bored Ape Yacht Club?
Amidst the growing NFT craze taking the internet over by storm, you have probably come across the JPEG of a bored-looking ape as the Twitter avatar of certain celebrities. The name of the JPEG is also, not surprisingly, Bored Ape Yacht Club. The NFT collection, which up until April 2021 has sold NFTs for as low as 0.08 ETH (that’s $247 us dollars), reached total sales of 1 billion dollars in January 2022.
With the identities of the owners recently unveiled by Buzzfeed in a controversial report, NFTs from the collection have made it into the possession of many A-List celebrities. From the likes of Eminem to Steph Curry, countless celebrities have bought into the NFT hype and purchased JPEGs from Bored Ape Yacht Club for as high as over 2 million dollars.

Francisco Gimeno - BC Analyst Everything we hear here is just common sense. Cyber criminals are always a step ahead and are very savvy to steal or hack anywhere in the digital world. The metaverse, composed of platforms, with (we expect) millions of interactions and trades, with a strong degree of decentralisation can suffer from criminal acts, up to when the minimum necessary regulations are established. The best example is what happened with crypto, and now with NFTs, DeFi, etc. So, always take care out there and be careful of not being scammed or cyber attacked.

NFTs have been taking over the art world. And at the center of the $17 billion NFT market is a company called OpenSea.
OpenSea is the Amazon of NFTs, or non-fungible tokens. It’s an online marketplace that allows people to easily create, sell and buy NFTs. It’s one of the largest NFT trading platforms with more than 1.5 million active users, according to Dune Analytics.
This past January was OpenSea’s busiest month yet. It recorded a monthly trading volume of nearly $5 billion, surpassing its previous high in August of 2021.
Alongside that explosive growth, however, the platform also has faced scrutiny for user complaints on the platform related to scams and plagiarism. Crypto-related crime soared nearly 79 percent in 2021 year over year, according to data from Chainalysis.
“We’ve been looking at market manipulation, wash trading and plagiarism and then your run-of-the-mill phishing scam, which is also something that has been coming into the NFT space,” Kim Grauer, director of research at Chainalysis, told CNBC. “So, we do see that kind of connection with scamming in the overall market activity.”
In an email to CNBC, an OpenSea spokesperson said: “We prioritize the trust and safety of all people on OpenSea, and are working hard to make sure that creators, buyers, and sellers alike feel supported by our policies, tools, and service.”

There is no doubt OpenSea is the Amazon of NFTs by now and they learn while continue to make the NFT landscape a better and more secure space. Is it going to be like this for a long time? While blockchain technology is being embraced by corporations around the world (see Forbes Blockchain 50) there has likewise been a boom in outfits that allow investors to buy, sell and store cryptocurrencies. Despite the sector being little more than a decade old, CoinGecko.com reports that there are no fewer than 580 independent crypto exchanges allowing investors to trade virtual currencies. In fact, in the last quarter of 2021, websites of dedicated crypto exchanges received 1.7 billion visits according to SimilarWeb data collected by Forbes.
For uninitiated crypto investors, distinguishing quality providers from those that appear to be reputable because of a slick website or famous spokesperson, is nearly impossible. Even exchanges with heavy trading volume in a particular cryptocurrency or pair of cryptos, is a faulty indicator of quality, because in an environment teeming with unregulated providers, it is relatively easy for exchanges to simply report fake numbers.
To help investors navigate the world of buying and selling bitcoin, ethereum and other cryptocurrencies, Forbes Digital Assets analyzed 60 of the largest crypto exchanges ranking them according to ten different criteria (see Ranking Methodology below) ranging from cyber-security provisions and trading fees to institutional backing and regulatory compliance, which we weighted more heavily. At the start of January, the 60 exchanges on our list were generating more than $100 billion in trading volume per day, representing the majority of crypto trading volume globally.
